The absolute majority of the plant employees are inhabitants of the town. Residents of Visaginas town, which is only a quarter of a century old, are young people (the average age is 33 years) having good education and high 
intellect. Therefore the average of GDP produced by Ignalina NPP and the town enterprises for one person is the highest in Utena county and one of the highest in all the country.  Ignalina NPP is the only large enterprise in the region. Approximately 7 thousand citizens of Visaginas town deal with nuclear power plant exploitation and maintenance. Near 1000 persons work on clothing factory “Visatex” which belongs to German businessman. Besides one can find here little building firms, service centers, filling stations, shops, tailor’s workshops,  repair shops. The real quantity of workplaces in the town could be estimated as 10.5 thousands. It is evident not to be sufficient. But Visaginas will live until Ignalina NPP works. The town satellite of NPP will turn into phantom if the nuclear power plant will be closed and no enterprises will be put into operation. As the sequence for nerve-strain about NPP and getting it ready for the early shutting down, a “drain-away” happens there. Many INPP ex-employees work in Russia, Canada, Germany, Sweden and the USA. Well, good specialists are required everywhere.
 Youth who works at NPP keeps in touch with their foreign colleagues in frames of Young Generation Network of European Nuclear Society. By means of Ignalina Youth Nuclear Association the international youth nuclear festival Dysnai take place on Luodis lake shore for two decades. During Festival and scientific Symposium young professionals from different countries discuss various problems and together look for the ways of its solution.
There are quite many enterprises which successfully work in spheres of construction, security, manufacture and mounting of telecommunication systems, trade and services. Some enterprises have large experience in spheres of manufacture and installing of large-size equipment, meat processing and production of foodstuffs. High-level technical education of the town dwellers creates conditions for development of the town industry related to application of ex act sciences in technological processes. There are good possibilities to use the economic technical basis of NPP and the town construction basis. Most of its building are preserved. They can be used for development of various industry from manufacture of complex electronic items to growing of flowers or vegetables. If investments are concentrated and technological processes are modernized industry of wood treatment and its articles, production of concrete and ferro-concrete articles can be developed. The industrial potential of the town inhabitants can take part in development of other branches of industry as well. Municipality of the town supports business development and invites to invest in Visaginas and to cooperate with entrepreneurs of the town.
