(in Lithuanian - projektas TEMINIAI KAIMAI) Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant Regional Development Agency (Lithuania) and Latgale Planning Region (Latvia) during the period of the year 2010-2012 implement a project VILLAGE HERITAGE. The project aims to help develop a new tourism destination – a network of theme villages in the Euroregion Country of Lakes. A total of 10 villages from Latvia and 10 from Lithuania that have saved the national traditions, crafts and want to develop that, promote in innovative way participate in this project as the potential theme villages – the members of new attractive tourism route. Each village has chosen a theme that describes and shows what it has the best. For example, bread, sauna, sheep and wool, smithery products, local food, etc. Villagers that plan to start their own business in the framework of the theme village will be given training in how to do that. A marketing strategy will also be developed. Lastly as a result all 6 theme villages will be presented for visitors in one package, so everyone can choose what they want to visit depending on their interests. More information:
